Unilodge in Broadway
Unilodge, Broadway is one of a pair of striking brick and rendered department buildings with symmetrical globe towers. These two buildings were known as the former Grace Bros store and are situated on rectangular lots either side of Bay Street, Ultimo. The pair of buildings are located at the higher end of Bay street, the subject site being on the north-eastern side of the Broadway and City Road junctions commanding the western approaches to the southern Sydney CBD. The former department store is described as a mid 1920’s example of the rare Federation Free-style Classical, with some detailing such as sandstone trim detailing.
The works will comprise the erection and completion of heritage works to the existing building facade, including replacement of the heritage street awning to the Western and Southern building facades, waterproofing liquid system application to all building facades, heritage and non-heritage window repair and replacement to building facades, and reinstatement of internal finishes affected by works, together with necessary drainage and services.
